Sculpted Surf
Inspired by my droning days, flying high over local beaches and watching the swell roll into the shoreline from a bird’s-eye perspective was always awe-inspiring. Looking down, the way the ocean meets the sand creates the most magical, ever-changing patterns of light, motion, and texture. Sculptured Surf was created from that unique aerial view—capturing the raw, rhythmic dance of the breaking waves as they rush onto the sun-warmed shore.
Painted on archival paper and mounted onto a wood cradle board, this piece is rich in impasto, using dynamic palette knife techniques to create deep, dimensional textures throughout. Thick, sculptural strokes give the painting a tactile texture that brings the frothy white sea foam, rich turquoise waters, and sandy shoreline to life.
